At Wave, we believe a diverse and inclusive culture is necessary for a winning team—you don’t get innovative products without diversity.

That’s why we’re happy to share the results of our latest employee survey. Based on an anonymous survey the People & Culture team administered earlier this year, Wave is making measurable strides toward an increasingly inclusive work environment.

In the last few years, Wave has invested significant time and effort hiring for diversity and inclusion as we’ve built our growing team. For example, we’ve shifted the overall gender split from 80% male/20% female to 62% male/38% female, with an increasing number of women in senior roles.

The gender split in all departments excluding Product and Engineering (R&D) is 50% male / 50% female, while the breakdown in R&D is 79% male / 21% female, which matches the industry average.

Wave also employs people across a wide age range, from 19 to 54 years old with our average being 33 years, and one in 10 employees identified as LGBTQ+. And another one in five Wavers identified as having an invisible disability.

To create a culture that encourages diversity of thought, we need to be inclusive beyond the way we look. That’s why Wave has worked hard to promote a sense of belonging. According to responses from Wavers, 90% said they feel that people from a variety of backgrounds have equal opportunities to succeed at Wave. Wavers also speak 26 languages other than English.

Why diversity and inclusion are important at Wave

As we launch innovative products, grow our teams, and create new departments, Wave keeps diversity and inclusion at the forefront. Wave strives to hire inclusively in every department to strategically build diverse teams that help us create world-class, innovative solutions for entrepreneurs. After all, studies show that diverse teams make better business decisions and perform well compared to homogenous groups.

“One of the things our employees tell us allows them to thrive is that we don’t simply hire for diversity, we hire the best people, then invest in and grow them,” says Ashira Gobrin, Senior Vice President of People and Culture.
